If you meditate in a group and move at all during meditation, this bench might be a bit too squeaky. It’s got metal hinges (come to think of it, maybe you could grease them a bit to get rid of the squeak without making a mess) to fold it down. That also makes it a little less stable.
If you don’t think you need to be able to fold it down, you’re probably better off with a solid construction without hinges.

I bought this bench from Hugger Mugger 10 yrs ago and it has been great. I recently bought another one assuming it would be the same quality. Sadly, it is not. The current version is inferior. The wood is not finished, the hinges are small and cheap and do not secure the legs properly. In fact, one hinge was loose and the other was misplaced so that leg doesn’t open and set properly. I have no problem if a company raises the price to maintain quality but don’t raise the price and lower the quality.

Hugger Mugger Meditation Bench (Plum)I LOVE THIS BENCH!! I have experienced severe hip pain during extended meditations on a traditional cusion. Using a bench has eliminated that. One of the reviews of this product complained that it was squeaky, however, mine has not had that problem. It is lightweight and easy to carry, and the removable cusion is very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this product.

This is a wonderful product – exactly what I needed, and with the carrying case and foldable legs, it is perfect for travel and trips to parks. The legs are absolutely solid when extended fully, and the cushion is comfortable for over an hour. I highly recommend.

This is absolutely what I needed. I’m too old and stiff to sit in any of the traditional cross legged postures. This kneeling bench is perfect for my needs. I am very still while sitting so the hinges have never been a problem for me and the pillow, while thin, is a very nice addition for the price.
It took me almost a year before I finally took a chance on buying a bench and after much consideration I bought this one and could not be happier. I feel it is the best value for the money. It is so simple to build I don’t understand why the others are so expensive.
