Product Description
Rubber-Cal’s Shark Tooth heavy-duty recycled rubber floor mat is designed for high impact applications and abrasive conditions. Being that this material is made domestically, and of 100% recycled rubber, this mat is both a socially and ecologically responsible product. Recycled rubber is a superior material when trying to reduce noise, contain vibration, and absorb shock from workout equipment and other machinery. At 3/4 inch thick recycled rubber is thick enough to protect most floors from falling parts such as free weights and dumbbell, and machinery such as washers and dryers. Additionally, the 3/4 inch thick rubber provides superior wear life compared to thinner, light-duty matting. One of the biggest concerns commonly associated with rubber matting is the installation. This mat weighs roughly 100lbs and stays down under its own weight, therefore there is no for permanent adhesives. The Shark Tooth is a mat and is recommended for installation in spots rather than as a flooring product. Therefore, the product remains portable, and may be moved or rearranged whenever necessary.

Recycled rubber mats are defintiely the way to go for weight room flooring needs. They will protect against any damage a dropped weight might cause. That said there are much cheaper options. Every farm and fleet type store (mill’s farm and fleet, tractor supply, Blaine’s ect.) sells 4/6′ 3/4″ cow stall mats (they weight 100 pounds) for 40 bucks. Unless you live in a large urban area (I dunno LA, NY city, San francisco or something) that doesn’t have a farm supply store, I’d go with the option that is much much cheaper (especially since you don’t have to pay for shipping).

Exactly what I wanted! Extremely heavy duty at 3/4″ thick and the 4×6′ mat weighs around 100 lbs. This isn’t cheap foam or urethane (Gold’s Gym interlocking mats sold by Walmart). I searched far and wide before selecting this vendor, type and size of rubber mat to protect concrete from heavy dumbbells and weight plates.
One-half inch density is probably sufficient for general dumbbell/bench routines alone, but I wanted to future-proof for heavier workouts and maximum impact absorbtion. The 3/4″ thickness should easily sustain 300+ pound general impacts much less low height dumbbell drops/release of 100+ pounds. Regarding size, I’m 5’10″ and use an Ironmaster superbench. One 4×6 tile is adequate though minimalist.
I highly recommend Rubber-Cal and applaud them for selling through the Amazon channel. The actual product value is fair; however, shipping (and applicable taxes) hurt a lot. I’d like to see them reduce unit price further or subsidize shipping to differentiate themselves and produce oustanding value.
Finally, a handy product catalog was included which I’ve saved for my (planned) in-home exercise room. The previous reviewer should have given five stars, because the noise and vibration damping characteristics are equally strong.

I have tried numberous items to put under washing machine we have on 2nd flr. I put this mat under it and it is the best yet. I still get alittle vibration through the floor, but by all means, the best yet…
