They suck because they get stuck, I paid the extra money and ordered Bowflex 25lbs and the rack, I love them.

I’m only giving these 1 star because there’s no option for “0 stars”.
My son bought me these for me as a gift. I had the exact same problem with the sliding mechanism. One of the dumbells worked OK approx. 80% of the time, but the other dumbell mechanism didn’t work at all on one end and only about 10% of the time on the other end.
I hated to have to say anything to my son, but I did ask him if he would be able to return the one dumbell for an exchange (had I purchased them myself they would go back for a full refund).
Save up and go for the Bowflex!

When I first purchased these weights, the adjustment tool became stuck nearly every time. After I thought I had finally figured out how to adjust it with reasonable speed, I was lifting one day and one of the weights just literally came apart in my hands, fell to the floor and narrowly missed my foot. I had only been using them for four weeks when this happened. I tried to call their customer service line to no avail. Don’t waste your money. They are shoddily made.
